" Slightly Mental"
We will be the first to admit that we are "a little mental". Matt and I were talking tonight (as it seems we do every night) of our interesting situation we've gotten ourselves into...still basically unemployed in paradise with a house on the mainland and expensive rent here. Matt in all seriousness says "you know, we must be slightly mental" I immediately laughed but he was being serious. I am sure it is what all of our family and friends have thought for a long time and there is probably some truth to it. What made us think we could quit a good paying job (AmeriTel in Boise) become self employed in the real estate arena and when the market crashed we up and move to Hawaii to find work....where the economy has tanked even harder! I assured him that we're not totally mental because in the past everything has always fallen into place quickly and jobs came easily...we assumed the same would happen..we've also sold 10 homes in the past 7 years and our average time on the market has been about 2 weeks. My how times have changed! In a normal economy we could have showed up in paradise and found plenty of random jobs to keep us busy. It is crazy how many jobs Matt has applied for and nothing (actually supposedly he got a job last month with Alamo but it has been a month long process to even get him started they have been dragging their feet and he still hasn't started....) Welcome to the "real world" Matt & Keri and say goodbye to the easy times. The Japanese teaching position has been great for Matt....if only it weren't so part-time. So yes we are mental. Our lease is up here in a month and we are reluctant to sign another one without the house selling and without good work... (maybe we're getting smarter). We really hope we are able to stay (the thought of moving back to Utah with Winter brewing is really icky). The good news is that the kids are happy here and really doing well. We are hoping for a house sell in the next couple of weeks and some evening employment workout for Matt...cross your fingers for us (say a prayer) The great thing is that through all of this, our faith has only grown and our relationship with Heavenly Father has deepened. We will come out of these experiences stronger and better because of them and hopefully it won't mean moving back to cold Utah ...brrrr.

Well, I don't know WHAT to pray for! You staying in Hawaii or coming back and being my neighbor again. :) Everything will work out the way it ought to and the kids are doing well and you are warm! (So are we but give us two or three months.) Good luck. You are in our prayers. It will all work out. Enjoy some ocean air for us here in land locked Cache Valley.
yeah i definitely think your experience will have more positive than negative outcomes. I hope we will get a chance to do something like that at some point in our lives! Good luck with everything, it'll all work out.
You guys are an amazing family...things will work out and you are in our prayers. We would love to have you back in Utah, but that would be selfish on our part. You have to have the bad and sometimes the real bad with the good to deepen your faith. There's a reason you are there right now. We love you!
We totally love you and still pray that things will work out for you quickly!!! We admire you following your hearts, chasing your dreams and living by the spirit!
I don't think I've ever called you slightly mental. We just say full on crazy! (kidding!) :)
Things will work out one way or another. You'll still have a fabulous husband and four amazing kids no matter where you end up. That's what is really important.
Good luck to you!
I don't think you are MENTAL but I do think that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes figuring out the reason is the frustrating/hard part. I hope whatever happens you are happy and that if you end up here we will hang out more than we used to!!! We will pray for you!
Mental is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I've not known you to do that! Pyrah prayers coming your way! I think we all are feeling the pinch right now.
I actually admire that you guys are willing to go out on a limb and try something new. Just think since we met you, you've been in a few different houses in Boise, Utah, and now Hawaii while we're all still here doing the same things! I don't think we'd ever be brave enough for a big change, but it's fun to see people like you who are. We all need someone to go visit in Hawaii anyway...or Utah. You can always come back to Boise too!
