Retro Post... Nauvoo Trip

I have been meaning to post pictures from the past since I wasn't a blogger back then and not very good at keeping a journal ever...and I'm somewhat copying Malin...(thanks Mal).
We took a family trip in the fall of 2007 to Kansas City,Mo for Ella's baptism (neice) and made a week trip of it seeing all the church history sites along the way and in Nauvoo. We took my mom along for the ride and had a great time. Matt was managing the Hilton Garden Inn at the time so we got to enjoy our Hilton discount...we stayed at Hampton Inns all along the way for $29/room/night. It was so much fun! I love a good road trip!On the Road... Grandma put up with a wild time! Gosh, I miss those little kids!
(below) at a rest stop along the way..entertaining themselves.
Isaac had broken his arm a couple days before the trip. It wasn't too serious and the cast was optional. The Dr. Decided to put one on because Isaac is so rough and was playing football, riding bikes constantly. we had forgotten about the swimming pools everyday along the way at the hotels..After the 1st few nights of trying to keep it dry with grocery bags (so didn't work) Matt cut it off in the hotel room with his Gerber (utility tool) It was quite the site and took a while to get all the way through it.

At the Mark Twain Cave. Olivia & Adam so cute! (above) inside the cave (below)
I can't remember which visitor centers these pictures were in...I'm thinking winter quarters or Independence. We loved all the visitor centers and the great spirit that is there. They have so many cool displays and videos and that give you a glimpse of life for the pioneers.
Are they cute or what?? They were awesome traveler and up for anything.
On the steps of the Nauvoo Temple. I love that they rebuilt it. I have been to Nauvoo four times in my life and this was the first time since they had rebuilt the temple. Matt and I were able to do a session there while Mom watched the kids.On a cold rainy wagon ride in Nauvoo. The nice thing about visiting in October is there are not many people around, the only drawback was that it was a little cooler.

At the Winter Quarters temple. This was also a new temple since I had last been.
It was such an amazing trip and the kids loved learning about the pioneers. I want to go back again when they are older. I am so grateful for all the pioneers went through, for the prophet Joseph Smith and the faith and courage he had to move the work of the Lord forward! Everytime I've gone I have come away with a renewed appreciation and stronger conviction of the truthfulness of the Gospel.

The first time I went to Nauvoo I was 12 years old and went with a church group. It was a big building point in my testiomy. I went back with My good friend Malinda the summer before I started dating Matt. We had a BLAST!! We were insane and camped a long the way (I would never do that now...too chicken) We had funny quotes and missed photo opportunities (another post in and off itself) Really was just an amazing trip! I went again with my folks, 1/2 my siblings, and Matt and Isaac when Isaac was a baby. This was Matt's first time. My grandpa Dawson decided to come at the last minute and so that was awsome having him a long. We met up with Chad's family in Nauvoo (They were living in Indianapolis at the time). So every trip to Nauvoo has been different and amazing!! The kids favorite part of the entire trip was being there for Ella's baptism (I of course forgot my camera and don't have any pictures) Do you have some you can e-mail me Soonhee? We got to See Grandpa Blackburn and Hayley and her boys there too. We went to a circus that was in town and that was the year I totally forgot Matt's birthday!! Ha ha..big oops. we pulled up at Marty & Soonhee's that morning and Soonhee said something about it being someones birthday...we had all totally forgotten (including Matt)...Sorry Babe!

Awesome post! I don't know how you remember all of those details. I wish my memory worked like that. The cast story is hilarious. I can totally picture Matt sawing away. Too funny.

I'm glad that I got to be part of your Nauvoo history. That was a fun trip . . . and we were crazy to camp all along the way. Too bad we couldn't use Matt's $29 discount back then. :)

Love it. They were so little!! Kathryn still wears that shirt Livi has on in lots of the pics -striped yellow, pink, etc. She was so excited to see it on here since she was wearing it at the time! :) Send some sunshine our way will you!! :)

That was fun having you come all that way to Missouri! We were so out of it, we forgot to take our camera to Ella's baptism too. I got a few pictures from my mom but they were taken before they got their digital camera so they're the old-fashioned kind. She also gave me some from the circus and the kids riding the elephant. You guys were able to get a lot in for such a quick trip! Just a little detail, that was in the fall of 2006, almost 2 1/2 years ago. You did well remembering so much!
