Matt got to go on a Japanese tour to the top of Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in Hawaii and believe it or not it gets snow in the winter. It is over 13,000 feet in elevation. There are multiple high powered telescopes on the summit, including some from other countries. Matt was able to see Jupiter and other planets through the company's telescope. Here's some shots he took when they got up there, you can see that he is above the clouds! He loved the nights view once it was dark.

It is chilly at the top and the air is thin. They have you acclimate to the higher elevation once you hit 9000 feet. You get out of the van for about an hour for your body to get use to the thin air. They don't suggest children go so I don't expect that the kids and I will experience Mauna Kea while we're here. We do have a great view of it from our home though.
