Doctors and Dentists and Surgeons Oh My!

Wow, we have had a busy 5 or 6 days. Last Thursday night Adam complained of a bump that was hurting. He didn't really want to show us but after some careful peaking and a phone call to Dr. Grandma and Uncle Brandon (who graduates medical school next month) we determined it was a Hernia he was dealing with. He told us it's been there a long time. We are glad he told us about it before we left for Hawaii and while we still have great insurance in place. We took him to the ER and he will have surgery this week. He is rather excited about surgery since no one in our family has ever had it. He thinks it will be fun and we aren't telling him any differently for now.

So, the next day as we're setting up for monstrous yard sale Isaac was off riding his skate board (his new love) He was a block away in the cemetery riding down a hill and CRASH a broken collar bone. He's broke his collar bone before so we knew they wouldn't do anything for him. We bought a sling and fancy ice pack at the store and had him ride it out a couple of days but last night the pain was still pretty bad so I took him in to the ER just make sure it wasn't worse than we thought. I knew there wouldn't be any time to take him to the DR today. Sure enough a pretty good break on his collar bone but nothing more they could do for him than we have been doing...they did give him some stronger pain meds and he's happy about that.

This morning I took all the kids to the dentist to get our last minute work done before we leave... 2 cavities for me (narrowly escaped a root canal), 2 for Isaac, a tooth pulled for Adam and 2 mini root canals for Olivia. They were awesome to set the first couple hours of the day aside for us and the kids just watched tv and read books in the waiting room when they weren't back with the dentist or hygienist (we filled all three of their rooms).

This afternoon I take Adam to the surgeon to discuss his surgery on Wednesday. WOW. Our insurance is going to wonder what hit them when they get all the bills from the past week. I still need to get the older boys in to the Eye Doctor and probably myself. It will be good to have it all taken care of. We are hoping to have all of the injuries out of our system for a while. It's probably been 4 years since we've had anyone in the ER so 2 in one week should tie us over for a while now.

In better news the yard sale was a huge success! We have a few more projects around the house and some major clean up and then we'll get the house on the market the end of next week before we leave... YIKES!! It is coming rather quickly! Everything is really falling into place though and we are grateful for that.

HOLY COW! That is crazy! I guess it is good that it all hit before the move. I felt the same way about my surgery last year . . . I was grateful that we had already met our out of pocket limit with Abby's birth. Having the insurance cover all $3000 softens the blow a little bit. Hopefully you've met your emergency room quota for the next four years.

Good luck with all of your last minute projects!

Wow, now that is an eventful week! I don't do well with broken bones. I haven't had to deal with it yet with my kids, but I'm hoping that I'll be twinkled with instant bravery when I do. It just makes me cringe when I think of it!
